It has been announced earlier this week by Redcar and Cleveland Council that Saltburn Pier is set to close for an estimated three weeks in February to help carry out routine inspections.

Along with the routine inspections, it is anticipated that lighting, and cabling will be removed from the underside of the Pier – whilst on the top half more than 100 decking boards will be replaced.

A local spokesperson stated:

“The closure of the pier will be kept to a minimum and it is hoped there will be restricted access when safe to do so.

“The repairs are expected to take three weeks to complete, weather permitting.”

It has also been confirmed that Tees Valley Combined Authority will be investing approximately £600,000 in improving further safety aspects on the lower promenade and Marine Parade.
