9 Unmissable Things To Do On A Day Out In Saltburn

Saltburn is a beautiful seaside town located in the North-East of England, and has a number of things to do and see in a small radius – whether you are a family of four, retired, or even a local member of the community.

We go into detail about what things you could do on a day out in Saltburn, in which here at Saltburn.org.uk we are biased in our opinion on how welcoming we, the locals are.

In no particular order, this is a quick bullet-point list of activities in the area or the local delicacies that you should try, such as the Lemon Top Ice Cream and the Parmo.

  1. Take a Stroll on Saltburn Pier
  2. Relax on Saltburn Beach and see the beach huts.
  3. Have a game of crazy golf.
  4. Taste one of the local delicacies in the lemon top ice cream or the Parmo
  5. Take a trip on the Cliff Lift and Tramway
  6. Have a ride on the miniature railway
  7. Take a walk into Valley Woods, seeing the Italian Gardens & Valley Gardens
  8. If you are fancying a longer walk, you can see Saltburn Viaduct or walk up the cliff to the Nature Reserve
  9. Finally, it wouldn’t be a trip to see the seaside without having fish and chips.

One of the most picturesque aspects of Saltburn is the Pier – in which hundreds of thousands of locals and tourists walk up and down it each year to capture in the spectacular vantage points and fresh air.

Most evenings you will find photographers and locals capturing the beautiful sunset with the Pier being the focal point.

Saltburn Beach

One of the most idyllic walks in the region which stretches a distance of 8 miles, all the way from Redcar to Saltburn.

You will find many of the locals spending their evenings on the beach with a campfire whilst unwinding and entertaining others.

The single shale beach hosts weekly events with watersports and also the annual New Years Day Dip which helps to raise awareness and funds for local charities.

If you are spending the day on the beach and want a place to keep your belongings, then look no further than one of the beach huts that you can hire for the day.

Crazy Golf

Located near the amusements, you will find the 18 hole crazy golf course that tests people’s metal including celebrities such as Tom Hardy.

Lemon Top Ice Cream

Visiting Saltburn and trying a lemon top is an absolute must! You are able to buy a lemon top either at Ednas Ices or Surfs Up on the seafront.

Cliff Lift and Tramway

Located to the rear of the Pier, the Cliff Lift is another historical aspect to Saltburn that you must see and have a ride on.

The water-based funicular helps you ease either up or down to the beach or into town and save you from climbing the steep steps.

Miniature Railway

On the far side of Saltburn, and slightly away from the beach, you will find the wonderful miniature railway that helps transport people all the way up into Valley Woods, which are a beautiful and natural part of Saltburn that you must explore.

Fish and Chips

Finally, It wouldn’t be a trip to the seaside without eating fish and chips – either from the SeaView restaurant, CatNab or Oscars.

All are absolutely delightful to eat from.

You might strike it lucky when you are in Saltburn, as there are many events running through the year that are surely not to be missed, such as the Cheese Festival, The Food Festival or the New Years Day Dip.
