Making Preparations

Ready for Kickoff

Well here we are in Saltburn. Having prepared much stuff we find that the wireless connection is not strong enough to work from the Theatre where the main presentations are.

The theatre has no cables so wired access is not possible either. Instead we will just have to use a separate room for connecting.

It is exasperating!

Video Bridge a Success

The Children of Latvia and England have just successfully video-bridged. Ably assisted by Inspector Charlie Bell  we found out het Latvia’s worst crime is Murder, but there is a problem with burglary. There is also an increase in car crime with the economic crisis. But is it Luxury cars or others that are the target nowadays?

Now people are watching the movie The Force is With You

So the Movie – Where do you buy a second hand TARDIS?

Well its filmed in Second Life. You might think that Barry must have been a dab hand with the editing. However, many of teh objects and sometimes even the avatars can be bought. They are called artifacts. So the TARDIS and the Star Trek Next Generation transporter were both coded by others and are available to be bought in Second Life.

The currency is something called Linden Dollars. They have a really low real value, but in Second Life can buy many things to improve your appearance etc. The only limiting is the computing power in showing the better quality objects. this is a world much as envisionaged by Tad Williams in his Otherland series of books.

Evening Event Imminent

After a successful afternoon event with over 140 children and viewers from Austria, Lithuania, Latvia, Finland and elsewhere in the UK we have been preparing for the evening.

There will be no actual Video Bridging during this session, although new content will be published though this live blog. Also the Back Channel will be open where questions and comments are very welcome.

These can be fed back to the Mayors, Home Office rep and police here. Your favorite community hacktavists will be in pole position to include you so please do take part.

Evening Reception with The Mayor

We are now having crudités, canapés, vol-au-vents or just snacks depending on your perspective. Some of the Film Stars are here, including Mark 1; who is very modest and stardom has not affected him negatively. Though he refuses to give autographs! Also the Mayor of Loftus is here in chains AND suit.

The other shifty character, quite recognizable from the movie is present and the director has dressed down (no tie) as has yours truly, one of Arthur Vader’s White-lightening storm troopers.

Bling Bling

Alison Atkinson, Loftus Town Clerk has nimbly translated the Latin motto for the town – vis virtus velocitas – life strength speed. Since 2002 she has been clerk and is delited to come to an IMEX extension and says “We need to drag ourselves kicking and screaming into the 21st century!” Luckily Loftus leads the way -although our website is a classic from the pre-Firefox days!

Women in the House!

Kieran and Sharon are both proud to say “Skinningrove Link up is part of something international which hopefully will raise profile of Skinningrove internationally. We are very fortunate to have Barry Hunt who not only happens to be a local resident but an excellent advocate for community matters and woudl like to congratulae him on becoming an Amb”assador to the Uzipis Republic. There is not anybody better.

Jetty! Jetty! Jetty! a Jetty! ” they shout as the Skinningrove battle cry now is.
